In 1958, it was Sputnik being launched by the Soviet Union. In 1981, we were "A Nation At Risk" according to the ridiculously publicized report on our schools. In terms of the "ratings" of our school systems, I think that our (the United States) biggest problem is that we are too compassionate and too democratic. We try to educate everyone. Even the kids who bring the averages down. As the parent of a special ed kid, I'll take that problem over higher ratings in the studies every time. <BR/>I'm not denying that there are problems and that we shouldn't talk about them.
